If you are looking to park your RV as close to the beach as possible, Coral Sands Inn RV Resort in Ormond Beach, Florida is the destination for you. This small RV park connected to a hotel is just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean and even features several front row spots with the perfect ocean view. Even from our site a little further back in the park, we could open our door and see straight out to the ocean. When you have small children in tow (mine are 7, 5, 2), the convenience of walking out of your door and taking a less than one minute walk to have your toes in the sand is priceless. We could easily get the kids down to the beach without feeling the need to pack the world because it was so convenient just to pop back up to the camper for snacks or whatever we needed (especially since we installed this Keyless Lock for our RV – no more panicking over who had the keys!). Our children loved playing tractors in the sand, splashing in the ocean, and catching shells and tiny crabs with our nets. The beach was clean and even though it was Spring Break, not very crowded at all.

On top of the incredible beach access, Coral Sands RV Resort is on the same property as Coral Sands Inn, and RV Resort guests are welcome to use the hotel amenities that are just a short walk away. My children particularly enjoyed the heated pool that overlooked the ocean and spent hours swimming each afternoon. I loved that I could sit on a lounge chair and watch my children while also taking in the gorgeous beach view. I found the pool area to be clean and well kept, and I think my children enjoyed swimming more than being at the beach!

Another available amenity is a laundry facility that I did not end up needing to use, but seemed to be clean (although several of the machines were out of order). There is also a comfort station located in the RV park with a men’s and women’s bathroom. The women’s was locked when I tried it, but my husband used the men’s bathroom to shower and said that it was “fine” (for what that’s worth, lol).

Ormond Beach itself seemed like a great place with lots to explore, and there were plenty of convenient grocery stores, restaurants, and activities. Our family played Mini Golf at Pirate’s Cove, which was interesting to say the least with the two-year-old, but we had a blast and our girls especially loved it.

Truly for us, the proximity to the ocean and the heated pool far exceeded our expectations and far outweighed anything that was less than desirable about this RV resort. But for the sake of the review, I’ll share the downsides and setbacks we experienced during our stay here. First, the hotel offers “free wi-fi,” which was very hit or miss and definitely inadequate to stream shows from our Roku. If you read my post on our 5 mistakes and 5 wins of our first camping trip, you will recall the joys of trying to explain buffering to a toddler and our vow to never leave home without a DVD player again.

Another issue to note was the proximity to the highway and the constant traffic noise, as our site was closer to the road side than the beach side. Luckily between our our air conditioner and the sound machine we never leave home without, it was enough to drown out the road noise at night. And while I felt like we had ample room at our site and were not on top of our neighbors by any means, the RV park is basically just a gravel parking lot, so there is no real privacy between the sites. This did not bother us, but if you’re someone who enjoys being secluded while camping, this one may not be for you. Also, the area to back your trailer in is pretty tight. Thankfully camping people are the nicest people in the world, and a nice neighboring camper helped us get backed in (after 10pm… also featured on our 5 mistakes post, never again!). One last thing, and definitely just a personal peeve, but I would be remiss not to mention that there was an abundance of smoking on the hotel side of the property (we did not experience this on the RV park side). I was thankful for the ocean breeze which was enough to clear the air near the pool, and just surprised by it since we are so used to living in a smoke-free ordinance area.

So in summary, for our family, all of the cons listed above were far outweighed by the proximity to the beach and the access to the heated pool. I would absolutely recommend staying here if your goal is to be as close to the beach as possible! We had a blast and we hope your family does too!
